Today we went to Newport! We explored Hatfield Marine Science center to learn about experiential learning. Afterward, we went to the Marine Discovery Tour. While we were on the tour, we were lucky enough to see a whale!! Of course, what would beach trip be without walking on sandy beach? We also had a DANCE PARTY! Nonetheless, students were tired from the trip. It was an educational but also a very enjoyable experience for everyone!

After moving into their dorm rooms and saying good-bye to the parents last night, the students started out today with a fun marshmallow challenge. The challenge was to build the tallest possible free-standing structure with a marshmallow balanced on top, using limited supplies. The supplies were 20 sticks of spaghetti, one yard of string, one yard of tape and of course, a marshmallow. The students learned about the concept of failing early on in order to learn and grow. opening themselves up to opportunities and new experiences, and adjusting their strategies based on those experiences, our students can continue to challenge themselves - academically and otherwise. The students also went on a scavenger hunt to learn about resources and locations around campus! The resources they learned will be helpful throughout the college life here at OSU!
